A 1500VA UPS is sized to hold a small load for minutes, not hours. Read the watt figure rather than the VA figure, because the usable watt rating is always lower than the VA headline. How long will 1500VA actually run my PC?
Minutes, and the number falls as the load rises. A 1500VA class unit is sized so a workstation and monitor, or a router and a small NVR, stay up through a dip and give you time to save and shut down. Add the watt figures on your equipment labels, then ask the sales desk to check them against the runtime chart for the stocked model.
Can I plug a laser printer or a fridge into it?
No. A laser printer draws a heavy surge every time the fuser warms up, and a fridge compressor does the same on start. Either will overload a 1500VA unit or drain it in seconds. Put those on the surge-only sockets or a normal wall point, and keep the battery sockets for the PC, monitor, router and switch.
Will it survive in a warehouse store room?
It will work, but the battery will not last as long. Sealed lead-acid cells age with temperature, and roughly every 10C above 25C halves service life, so a unit in an uncooled Jebel Ali store room needs a battery sooner than the same unit in an office. Site it inside the cooled area and give the vents clear air.
Do the sockets match UAE plugs?
That depends on the model variant, because APC builds Back-UPS units with different outlet layouts by region, some with 3-pin UAE-style sockets and some with IEC outlets that need kettle leads. What invoice and warranty paperwork do I get?
