- Ampt does not publish a warranty term for its optimisers or communication unit on its datasheets, manuals or brochures; the documents refer to a product warranty without stating a duration. No figure should be quoted for it, and the term must be obtained from the manufacturer in writing before the equipment is priced into a project.
Ampt makes direct-current string optimisers for large-scale photovoltaic and DC-coupled storage plants. Unlike module-level optimisers aimed at shaded residential roofs, Ampt devices sit at string level in utility plants and are used to change the electrical architecture: by capping string output voltage and current, they let a designer put far more modules on a string and use smaller conductors for the same delivered power. The saving shows up in cable, combiners and inverter count rather than in a yield percentage.
Why it gets specified
- Capping string output voltage and current lets a designer roughly double the modules per string and reduce conductor size per kilowatt, which on a hundred-hectare desert plot is a large copper and trenching saving rather than a marginal one.
- Holding the inverter at a fixed high input voltage lets it reach rated output regardless of how far ambient temperature has pushed the array voltage down — which is exactly the Gulf summer problem.
- Very high conversion efficiency across the range, published at above ninety-nine and a half per cent, so the architectural gain is not paid for in conversion loss.
- A published ambient operating range to fifty-five degrees with derating guidance at high ambient and altitude, which is a genuinely useful specification rather than a laboratory figure.
- A direct-current coupled storage architecture that removes part or all of the battery conversion stage, which reduces both the equipment count and one more thing that has to reject heat in a Gulf plant room.

On a UAE project
On a large UAE ground-mount plant, copper and trenching are real money and both scale with the distance between the array and the inverter — a Western Region plot is long, flat and hot, and the DC collection system is where the cost quietly sits. Ampt is worth evaluating precisely there: it does not chase a yield percentage, it changes the string architecture so that more modules fit on a string and smaller conductors carry the same power, and it holds the inverter at a high fixed input voltage so summer heat does not cost rated output. The ambient rating to fifty-five degrees with published derating guidance is the kind of specification a Gulf designer can actually work with. Two honest limits: Ampt does not publish a warranty term, so that must be obtained in writing before it is priced; and its own statement of regional coverage extends only to representation in the Middle East, with no named Gulf office or project.
