- Stäubli's published commercial terms state a warranty period of twelve months for all products. The frequently repeated twenty-five-year figure is a design-life claim on the product pages, not a warranty, and must not be presented as one. Liability is expressly excluded where a Stäubli connector is mated with or integrated into another manufacturer's product, or where installation departs from Stäubli's instructions and tooling specification.
Stäubli is a Swiss industrial group founded in 1892 whose electrical connector division grew out of Multi-Contact, the Basel company that originated the MC4 photovoltaic connector and which Stäubli acquired in 2002. Today it makes the connectors, panel receptacles, in-line fuses, high-power balance-of-system couplers and the crimping tools that go with them. On a utility project the connector is the highest-count, lowest-cost, highest-consequence item in the whole DC system.
Why it gets specified
- The current 1500 V generation is certified to IP68 at one metre for a full week, versus one hour on the older 1000/1100 V generation — the specification that survives a flash flood across a Western Region plot.
- Stäubli states in writing that mating its connectors with another manufacturer's causes the assembly to lose its IEC and UL certification in the end-use application — which makes connector brand consistency a compliance requirement rather than a preference.
- The connector range is tested for photovoltaic installations at module temperature Level 2 under IEC TS 63126, which is the classification a desert project's specification should be asking for by name.
- Crimping tools stamp a registered die identifier into every crimp, encoding the conductor cross-section and crimp geometry — a genuine audit trail when an EPC has to prove workmanship on two hundred thousand terminations.
- Salt-mist corrosion and ammonia resistance are published product properties, which is directly relevant to coastal Emirates sites and to arrays over livestock or wastewater infrastructure.

On a UAE project
Connectors are the single most common cause of DC arc faults and hot spots on a Gulf plant, because thermal cycling between a 20 °C winter night and an 80 °C summer module back drives thousands of expansion cycles a year through every mated pair, and a crimp that is merely acceptable in a temperate climate loosens here. Two rules follow, and both are cheap to enforce at design stage: specify the 1500 V generation on any modern utility string rather than the 1000/1100 V one, and specify one connector manufacturer across the whole DC system — Stäubli states in writing that mixing brands voids the IEC and UL certification of the assembly, and a UAE utility inspector will read the same standard clauses. Ask for the module-temperature Level 2 classification by name in the specification, because that is what a desert back-of-module temperature actually demands. Note that Stäubli publishes a twelve-month warranty; the widely quoted twenty-five-year figure is a design-life statement, not a warranty term, and should never be quoted as one.
