- The Series 7 tracker product is published at twelve years product cover and thirty years performance, starting at ninety-eight per cent in year one, with the updated cell version published at a markedly lower annual degradation rate than the standard build. Fixed-tilt product made for other markets carries shorter published terms. The warranty also addresses power loss arising from cell cracking. First Solar is the only manufacturer in this list that does not make crystalline silicon modules. It makes cadmium telluride thin-film, a different semiconductor with a genuinely different behaviour in heat and humidity, and it is the largest thin-film manufacturer in the world and the only United States headquartered company among the largest solar manufacturers. Its current volume product is the Series 7 platform, with an updated cell technology that further flattens the temperature response. For a Gulf project this is the one module whose physics, not just its marketing, favours the climate.
Why it gets specified
- Cadmium telluride has a flatter temperature coefficient than mainstream crystalline silicon, and the updated cell technology flattens it further — meaning proportionally less output is lost on the days the Emirates generates most of its solar energy.
- First Solar publishes a claim of additional annual energy in hot climates and further additional energy in high humidity relative to conventional modules — a combination that describes a UAE coastal site precisely.
- Datasheets carry blowing sand and dust testing and salt-mist corrosion testing as published certifications, which are the two environmental standards a Gulf specification should be asking for by number.
- The updated cell technology is published with a markedly lower annual degradation rate than the standard product, which changes a thirty-year energy model more than a few watts of nameplate ever will.
- First Solar supplied the modules for the first and second phases of Dubai's flagship solar park more than a decade ago — an earlier product generation, but a UAE field record with a real operating history behind it.

On a UAE project
The case for First Solar on a UAE project is thermodynamic rather than commercial. A crystalline silicon module in Abu Dhabi spends the most productive hours of the year with its cells thirty degrees above ambient, and every one of those degrees costs output at a rate set by the temperature coefficient — which is the number cadmium telluride wins on, and wins on by more once the updated cell technology is specified. The humidity behaviour matters just as much on the coast, where dew, salt and high dew points define the operating environment for a large part of the year. The module is also physically different to install: it is smaller and lighter per unit than a 210 mm silicon module, which changes handling and mounting design rather than making it better or worse. Two things to keep straight for a UAE audience: First Solar has no Gulf office, so supply and technical support run from outside the region, and its documented Dubai supply is an earlier product generation from over a decade ago.
